Art Instruction

South Shore Atelier (copyright)
Artist Shawn Sullivan is now offering part time classical art instruction at his studio or in your own home. Learn to draw or paint using techniques handed down from the French academies of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. You will learn step by step procedures with clearly set goals that are designed to increase skill and build confidence. I am not a self proclaimed master, just an ordinary Joe like yourself, who wanted to be better at painting and was able to put together a part time training regimen for himself that is different from the instruction methods used at most of the current private ateliers. If you like what you see www.ShawnSullivanPaintings.com than maybe I can help you to realize your own potential as an artist. I am also available for portfolio development for high school students.
Shawn Sullivan has twenty five years experience as an art educator at a high school for art majors and equally as many years creating and exhibiting paintings on a professional level.
Instruction is available in any area that you would like to study. I place particular emphasis on blocking-in (the beginning way to structure a drawing), working large to small, mixing color strings (see the painting on your palette before you try to realize it on the canvas), smashing the light (the difference between a dull painting and one with energy), and practical tips that I've learned over the years.
I am also available for painting demonstrations and workshops.
Students at all levels of experience (none to some) are welcome. Make all inquiries to
